Philadelphia Chapter

The Philadelphia Chapter of American Pilgrims covers the Philadelphia metro area, eastern Pennsylvania and central New Jersey. Broadly stated, the purpose of this local chapter is to keep members connected to the Camino and to introduce new people to the phenomenon. We plan to accomplish this in a number of ways, such as social events, hikes, mentoring future pilgrims and serving as a local host for hospitalero training through American Pilgrims.

The chapter’s activities in 2016 are highlighted in its Annual Report. We organize local hikes, talks, potlucks, a lending library of Camino related books, and more! Please visit our Meetup page for upcoming activities. Join the chapter email newsletter today for local updates delivered to your inbox. For more information or questions, please contact chapter coordinators Robert MacMillan and Karin Samulis at [email protected].

We are pleased to offer these resources:
       Sample packing lists and considerations
A collection of representative books for reading and reference

Hike at Neversink Mountain
Saturday, June 2, 2018, 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM

The Philadelphia Chapter invites you to join us for a beautiful hike with some amazing views. We have a hike of about 8 miles planned. Please be sure to bring plenty of water, a snack and all the usual gear (rain gear, spare socks, windbreaker, sunscreen etc!) There is a fair bit of climbing, as you can see in the picture from last years hike. So, poles are a good idea if you are used to using them. Or trying to learn to use them!

The meetup point is Panera Bread, 4395 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, PA. We will have lunch together post hiking at Blackjax Grill and Pub. The address for Blackjax is 668 Benjamin Franklin Hwy, Birdsboro, PA 19508.

PLEASE RSVP using our MeetUp Page. Thanks and look forward to seeing you there!

Are you interested in learning more about the Camino?
If you are thinking of walking the Camino and are interested in learning more, we can pair you with an experienced pilgrim who can answer your questions on how to prepare and what to expect. Just email us at [email protected] and ask to be connected with a mentor.

Also you can visit American Pilgrims on the Camino via Facebook for great dialogue, photos, and a running commentary about the Camino from like-minded pilgrims.
