Charlotte, North Carolina Chapter

The Charlotte, North Carolina chapter of American Pilgrims south-central North Carolina and north-central South Carolina centered on Charlotte. The purpose of local chapters is to keep members connected to the Camino and to introduce new people to the phenomenon. We plan to accomplish this in a number of ways, such as social events, walks, mentoring future pilgrims and serving as a local host for hospitalero training through American Pilgrims.

  • To offer opportunities for local pilgrims to gather and hold events related to the Camino.
  • To mentor future pilgrims, promote the pilgrimage and American Pilgrims through social gatherings.
  • To serve as a local host for hospitalero training in the south-central North Carolina region.

The chapter will be scheduling walks, talks, potlucks and much more! These will be listed here but you may also want to check the Local Events page for non-chapter events that may be of interest. Contact chapter coordinators Bob Barret, Mike Gardner and Vince Pratt at Charlotte@americanpilgrims.org for more information.

Our usual meeting times are monthly on the third Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and weekly coffee Thursday mornings at 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Check the events calendar and our chapter Facebook group, Charlotte Camino Pilgrims, at the following link (facebook.com/groups/1418344158467833) for specifics. Once you join our mailing list, you will receive event notices by email.

Although we strongly suggest becoming a (dues-paying) member of the national American Pilgrims organization, that is not necessary to participate in local chapter events. The national organization provides significant financial and logistical support to the locals. If you'd like to consider membership, click on over to the Membership page

Scheduled Events
You can always contact us through Charlotte@americanpilgrims.org to find out what we're up to!

Ongoing Events:
Enjoy good coffee and good company with the Charlotte Chapter Thursday mornings. Most weeks several of our group gather for coffee and conversation at Mugs Coffee (5126 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209 on the back side of the shopping area). We usually sit at a table beside the front door. Come if you are interested in the Camino or have questions about one you are planning. It is an opportunity to discuss your specific questions in more detail than time permits at monthly meetings.

Check the events calendar and our chapter Facebook group, Charlotte Camino Pilgrims, at the following link (facebook.com/groups/1418344158467833) for specifics, or post a note there if you want to know for sure that some one else will be there.

Are you interested in learning more about the Camino?
The Charlotte Chapter Camino Mentor Program can pair individuals who have questions about their upcoming Camino with a nearby veteran who can answer questions. Contact Charlotte@americanpilgrims.org for details. Experienced Camino walkers and cyclists who would like to serve as mentors should contact us so that you can be added to our resource list. Potential mentors should provide us with your name, ZIP-code and a brief rundown of your experience including walking or cycling, which route and when. Also you can visit American Pilgrims on the Camino on Facebook for great dialogue, photos and a running commentary about the Camino from like-minded pilgrims.

For information about the chapter and its activities or about membership in American Pilgrlims, contact us at Charlotte@americanpilgrims.org.
