Philadelphia Chapter

The Philadelphia Chapter of American Pilgrims covers the Philadelphia metro area, eastern Pennsylvania and central New Jersey. Broadly stated, the purpose of this local chapter is to keep members connected to the Camino and to introduce new people to the phenomenon. We plan to accomplish this in a number of ways, such as social events, hikes, mentoring future pilgrims and serving as a local host for hospitalero training through American Pilgrims.

The chapter’s activities in 2016 are highlighted in its Annual Report. We organize local hikes, talks, potlucks, a lending library of Camino related books, and more! Please visit our Meetup page for upcoming activities. Join the chapter email newsletter today for local updates delivered to your inbox. For more information or questions, please contact chapter coordinators Roy Racer, Robert MacMillan and Karin Samulis at

We are pleased to offer these resources:

Urban Walk Highlighting Martin Luther King, Jr's Famous Walk on the National Mall
Saturday, March 10, 2018, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The Mid-Atlantic and Philadelphia Chapters are excited to announce their first ever joint chapter event right here in Washington!

This will be an urban walk beginning at Arlington National Cemetery, cintinuing across Memorial Bridge and then around the National Mall. A highlight of our walk will be to trace the march of Martin Luther King Jr when he made his famous "I have a dream" speech 55 years ago this year.

The Philadelphia Chapter has a copy of the original map we will use to guide us on the MLK part of the walk. In addition we will include other memorials on our trek including the MLK memorial and a number of other Mall highlights. We plan to journey the length of the Mall to the Capitol Building, have lunch and then return to Arlington Cemetery. Be sure to pack a lunch.

This will be about a 9-mile trek. At any point you can turn around and return for a shorter walk.

We will meet at the main entrance of the Arlington National Visitors Center (1 Memorial Ave, Fort Myer, VA 22211) at 10 to start the walk. There is a pay parking lot next to the Visitors Center for those who are driving. There is also a convenient Metro stop at Arlington Cemetery for local folks who can take the Metro.
