Charlotte, North Carolina Chapter

The Charlotte, North Carolina chapter of American Pilgrims south-central North Carolina and north-central South Carolina centered on Charlotte. The purpose of local chapters is to keep members connected to the Camino and to introduce new people to the phenomenon. We plan to accomplish this in a number of ways, such as social events, walks, mentoring future pilgrims and serving as a local host for hospitalero training through American Pilgrims.

  • To offer opportunities for local pilgrims to gather and hold events related to the Camino.
  • To mentor future pilgrims, promote the pilgrimage and American Pilgrims through social gatherings.
  • To serve as a local host for hospitalero training in the south-central North Carolina region.

The chapter will be scheduling walks, talks, potlucks and much more! These will be listed here but you may also want to check the Local Events page for non-chapter events that may be of interest. Contact chapter coordinators Bob Barrett and Vince Pratt at for more information.

Our usual meeting times are monthly on the third Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and weekly coffee Thursday mornings at 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Check the events calendar and our chapter Facebook group, Charlotte Camino Pilgrims, at the following link ( for specifics. Once you join our mailing list, you will receive event notices by email.

Although we strongly suggest becoming a (dues-paying) member of the national American Pilgrims organization, that is not necessary to participate in local chapter events. The national organization provides significant financial and logistical support to the locals. If you'd like to consider membership, click on over to the Membership page

• You've arrived! You have your compostela. You've attended the Pilgrims' Mass. You've hugged the Saint. Now what? You need to scan through this blog entry by the venerable Johnnie Walker: 20 things to see and do in Santiago de Compostela.

• There are a thousand and one packing lists out there but THIS is our take on the topic.

Walking along Hadrian's Wall, England'
Tuesday, January 16, 2018, 6:30 - 7:30 PM
Alpine Ski Center, 1501 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203

The Charlotte Chapter begins the New Year with Richard and Sherri Bargoil sharing their latest experiences walking Hadrians Wall in England in October of 2017. All of Europe is covered in paths and many lead to Santiago! You will want to understand some of the differences from the francés, if you have already completed those miles.

As always, there will be time for questions and discussions both about the presentation as well as any other topics regarding a Camino you are planning. Our membership has broad experience of many different Camino routes as well as other long distance walks in Europe, Africa, and North and South America and is always interested to share that experience.

Ongoing Events:
Enjoy good coffee and good company with the Charlotte Chapter Thursday mornings. Most weeks several of our group gather for coffee and conversation at Mugs Coffee (5126 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209 on the back side of the shopping area). We usually sit at a table beside the front door. Come if you are interested in the Camino or have questions about one you are planning. It is an opportunity to discuss your specific questions in more detail than time permits at monthly meetings.

Check the events calendar and our chapter Facebook group, Charlotte Camino Pilgrims, at the following link ( for specifics, or post a note there if you want to know for sure that some one else will be there.
